We all know treating cancer is very complex. Whenever there is a diagnosis of cancer, then we get panic and the major question comes to our mind, is how to proceed further.

When ever a cancer is diagnosed, first thing to do, is, to confirm the stage of cancer ,with the help of radiological investigations like PET CT Scan, CT Scan, MRI, USG and X ray. Choice of investigation depends on the type of cancer.

After stage is confirmed, then cancer is treated according to the stage of cancer.

Cancer in early stage is treated directly with surgery and then chemotherapy and or radiotherapy is given to decrease the chances of relapse of cancer.

When cancer is locally advanced, then chemotherapy or radiotherapy is given in various combinations to decrease the cancer size and then surgery is done.

When cancer is advanced and spread to distant parts of body, then chemotherapy is given to control the disease.

Sometimes cancer occurs in that part of body , where surgery is difficult and cause loss of function of that organ like, vocal cord, esophagus, anal canal, then combination of chemotherapy and radiotherapy can be given to avoid surgery.
